I am amazed that the things I learn from this DVD. It has so many tips to taking great pictures and help me understand what features to use for what I am trying to achieve. I am an amateur photographer so I feel I can maximize the use of my camera features by understanding what the hell I am doing. It is a wonderful DVD.
Great intro for a rookie August 6, 2010

I really enjoyed this DVD. The presentation is quick and crisp, with very little repetition. About 1/3 of it discusses specific buttons on the Canon XS, another 1/3 explains these controls in context (he actually takes pictures using the settings on the video) and the remaining 1/3 is pure advice about photography.
As the other reviewer said, the video does not delve into every switch setting. It mainly sticks to the settings you'll need to take good pictures in real world situations (in a restaurant, in bright sun, with sunset background, etc.)
At no time does he wander away from the Canon XS and he never wastes time on a feature that's not available on our camera.
By the end, you really feel like you can go out and take some great photos!

This is a good DVD that is more for beginner photographers, rather than showing you all the functions of this specific camera. I was looking for the talent to walk me through each setting on the camera and explain exactly how they work, and what they would be used for in depth. Instead I got a lot of good general rule of thumb stuff. All in all, it's a good video, worth having, just not the information I was looking for.
